Julia McDonald (She/They) is a Maine-based physician, writer, and international humanitarian. McDonald’s writing has appeared in mainstream news media as advocacy for patients and commentary on the intersection of politics and medicine. More recent creative nonfiction and poetry has appeared in The Sun, the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), The Dewdrop: (Haiku), Beyond Queer Words, and others.
McDonald became a Certified Listener Poet with The Good Listening Project in fall of 2024 and had three poems featured in the anthology Say Her Name: Honoring Henrietta Lacks’ Legacy and Impact on Medicine and Research Ethics.
Their first book, an expansion of their CLP course Practicum, Hysteriography: Poems about Uteruses, Menstruation, Pregnancy, Abortion, Loss, and Childbirth, was released in 2025 and can be purchased here.
