Caregiver Haven

Help us meet our $30,000 goal

Program Summary

In 2025, The Good Listening Project (TGLP) will launch Caregiver Haven, a program that supports informal caregivers through the healing power of listening, poetry, and community. The program will include one-on-one Listener Poet sessions and monthly “Poetry Corner for Caregivers” gatherings. In its first year, we aim to reach and support at least 150 caregivers nationwide.

This initiative will offer caregivers a much-needed space for reflection, emotional release, and peer support, counteracting the isolation often associated with caregiving. Importantly, all program services will be provided at no cost to the participants.

The Need

Caregivers are the backbone of long-term care in the U.S., providing $600 billion in unpaid labor annually—more than all out-of-pocket healthcare spending (AARP). Over 60% balance caregiving with jobs, leading to widespread stress. Currently, 21% of U.S. adults are caregivers, and 32% have been at some point. BIPOC and low-income caregivers face even greater burnout due to systemic inequities. Caregiver Haven offers a sanctuary, providing emotional support and connection tailored to their needs.

Goals

  1. Immediate Emotional Support through Listener Poet Sessions: Caregivers will have access to one-on-one poetry sessions, offering personalized listening and reflective poems that validate their experiences and foster emotional relief.

  2. Community Connection through Monthly Gatherings: The “Poetry Corner for Caregivers” will serve as a regular gathering space where caregivers can share their poems, engage in creative writing, and build relationships in a supportive community.

  3. Amplifying Caregiver Voices: A Caregiver Chronicles Anthology will raise awareness of caregiver needs by humanizing their experiences and sharing them in a custom poetry anthology, highlighting their diverse lived experiences and resilience. This anthology will be distributed to caregivers and advocacy organizations to amplify their voices and foster community understanding.

Donating

To make Caregiver Haven a reality, TGLP aims to raise $30,000. These funds will enable the delivery of Listener Poet sessions and monthly gatherings, and the production and distribution of the Caregiver Chronicles Anthology.

$7,500+ (Sponsor): Sustains the program long-term; recognized in communications and the anthology.

$3,000+ (Anthology Steward): Funds the creation and distribution of anthologies.

$1,000+ (Community Builder): Supports monthly gatherings for a year.

$1-$1,000 (Listening Champion): Funds Listener Poet sessions for caregivers.

Why We Listen

I really appreciated your deep heartfelt listening. I rarely feel that heard. The poem is such a vivid reminder of that interaction.
— Cardiac Nurse

I thought it was very valuable to have a space that gave me the chance to think and talk about something that really mattered to me.

I ended up talking about something that has been on my mind for months. Something I haven’t been able to verbalize, or haven’t allowed myself to give words to before.
— Healthcare Staff

I’m 50, and that was the first time I’ve ever felt heard.
— Healthcare Staff

You are such a fine listener, and I am taken aback by your careful recollections of what I said to you.

You truly captured the essence of my grief and the events that tumbled in and became a part of it, too. Your poem is tender and a comfort.
— Patient
